Modal is a textile fibre made from wood cellulose, often derived from beechwood. It is appreciated for its softness, suppleness, fluidity and ability to absorb moisture. Pleasant against the skin, it also creates a fine fabric with an elegant drape.
Modal provides pleasant thermal comfort, but it is less insulating than wool or cashmere. Breathable and able to absorb moisture, it avoids retaining excessive heat. A modal and silk stole is therefore particularly suitable for mild weather, cool evenings and transitional seasons.
A modal and silk stole is best washed gently by hand in cold or slightly lukewarm water with a small amount of detergent for delicate fabrics. Avoid rubbing or twisting it, rinse gently and remove excess water without strong spinning. Machine washing should only be used if the care label allows it, on a delicate or wool cycle at a maximum of 30°C with a very gentle spin. Do not tumble dry; leave it to dry flat away from direct heat.
