The stages of creating an embroidered pashmina

Creating an embroidered pashmina begins with choosing the motif, followed by transferring it onto the fabric before the needlework begins. Made with silk threads, each embroidery requires precision and patience.

Kashmiri embroidery: finesse and artisanal precision

Kashmiri embroidery is traditionally carried out by artisans, often men who specialise in this meticulous art. To preserve their eyesight and maintain the precision of their stitches, they generally embroider for no more than four hours a day. This expertise creates detailed motifs that give each embroidered pashmina its unique character.

What is an embroidered pashmina?

Pashmina comes from the finest undercoat of Himalayan goats, particularly from around the neck, chin and chest. This exceptionally fine fibre measures around 18 microns. Each embroidered pashmina is first handwoven on traditional looms in the Kashmir region before being worked on by the artisans.
